The Rebel Whole

by Erin L. King

I will be a girl,
fresh and innocent,
bright eyes, and satin ribbons
and laughter
intent and real —
hard as nails
and solid as earth.
I will jump through the fountains
and forests this world has to offer;
I will be as wise as sages
and play like a child.
I will be tough
and rational
pretty and laughing and dancing
like a banshee
I will kiss the fingers of men with sultry eyes, I will
move the stars and calm the raging, and
pervade the very air with myself.
